.TEL - Using Your .TEL
A .TEL domain is a perfect solution for the digital nomad in all of us. No matter where you travel, where you move, or where you work, your friends, family, clients, and business associates can instantly find the best way to contact you.
.TEL domains are great for businesses too. The content on a business's .TEL site can easily be customized to let customers drill down to find contact and location information specific to one office.
All .TEL domains are just like a regular telephone number, you control who has your .TEL address. Using built-in privacy controls, you determine who has access to your information. Easily create profiles to distinguish between business and personal contacts. Give your business contacts access to your work information while your personal contacts see your home telephone number and private email address.
Get Started
* After logging in to Telhosting through your Dotster Account, activate TelFriends (located in the upper right corner of the control panel dashboard). Activating TelFriends gives your friends the ability to request access to your private contact information.
* Populate your .TEL domain with basic information. Individuals: List your name, relevant keywords, and favorite websites. Also consider inputting your location on the map and providing an email address and/or phone number that you're comfortable sharing with the public. Businesses: List your company name, physical address, mailing address, office contact numbers like phone and fax, a general email, and keywords describing your business and the products and services you provide.
* Limit your most personal information (like cell phone number) to contacts you trust. After setting these components to "Private", you'll use the TelFriends setting to control which individuals can view specific pieces of information.
Creative Ways to Use Your .TEL Domain
* Create at least two profiles to distinguish between business and personal information. Limit friend access to a particular profile based on your relationship with that friend.
* If you're leaving for vacation, create a new profile that includes all your travel information and make it accessible to those who'd need to contact you in case of emergency. Include your flight information, hotel name, address, the dates you'll be gone, and a phone number where you can be reached. If you have friends in the location you're visiting, list their contact information too.
* College students can create different profiles to distinguish their on-campus information from their at-home information. That way whether they're at school or on summer break, their friends and family will know how to reach them.
* Businesses can provide customers with quick access to contact information, no matter how many offices the company has. Create menus that let your customers drill down to the specific department they'd like to contact (billing, sales, customer service, etc.) and provide the most up-to-date contact information specific to each department. Does your business have offices in multiple cities or countries? Give clients the ability to drill down by location as well.
* If you have a common name such as John Smith, include keywords in your .TEL profile that will help visitors distinguish you from a different John Smith.
* List your personal .TEL address on your business cards. Should you ever leave your current company, past business associates and vendors will still be able to contact you. It's an effectiveto maintain business relationships.
